SELF-LOVE PRACTICE

CAREER & HIGHER EDUCATION

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Rose from Concrete is a summer peer-mentorship program developed by Code Switch Youth Justice Leader, Naika Belizaire. The main mission of the program is to match girls, femmes, and gender non-conforming young people (GNC-YP) of color in grades 4-8 with peer mentors that are girls, femmes, and GNC-YP of color in grades 9-12.  Peer mentors will serve as role models and friends while utilizing the program curriculum to teach self-love and foster a college, career, and/or entrepreneurial focused mindset.

PROGRAM ACTIVITIES

Mentees will be provided with lessons & activities that focus on:

Self-Love, Reflection, & Growth 

  • Weekly Affirmations dedicated to:
    • Gaining self confidence 
    • Learning foundations of self-love
  • Weekly Journaling with prompts focused on:
    • Reducing stress and anxiety
    • Finding inspiration
    • Regulating emotions
    • Evoking Personal Growth
  • Self love focused lessons and group discussions

Focusing on the Future 

  • “What I Want to Be When I Grow Up” Project
  • Guest Speakers
  • Career/Higher Education focused lessons and activities 
  • Group Discussions 
  • Career Day
    • Members will be able to shadow professionals in the career field similar to the members’s career goals 

Sisterhood & Giving Back to the Community 

  • In-person Bonding Events
  • Monitored & Safe Discord Chats
  • The End of the Year Celebration
    • During this celebration, members will be provided bags of free school supplies
  • Weekly Restorative Justice Sister Circles

 

Mentors will be provided with lessons & activities that focus on :

Preparation & Training

  • Training Workshop meant to:
    • Educate mentors on Critical Mentorship
    • Prepare mentors to work with elementary and middle school children

Self-Love, Reflection, & Growth 

  • Weekly Affirmations dedicated to:
    • Gaining self confidence 
    • Learning foundations of self-love
  • Weekly Journaling with prompts focused on:
    • Reducing stress and anxiety

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Rose From Concrete is dedicated to helping girls, femmes, and gender non-conforming young people of color learn to embrace their potential and reach for their future. In order to be a part of that, you must:

Identify as a girl, femme, or gender non-conforming young person of color (i.e. Black, Indigenous, Hispanic/Latinè, Asian etc.)

To be a mentee you must be in 4-8th grade

To be a mentor you must be in 9-12th grade

To be a mentor you must be available and prepared to participate in a formal mentorship training

To be a mentor you must exemplify leadership & a passion to help your community
