Sankofa Summers comprise an extended travel opportunity curated to provide girls, young women, gender expansive youth, and those who care for, mentor and teach them with an intergenerational cultural immersion experience that supports their development as global leaders. Our annual summer tours also help broaden our girls’ perspectives, strengthens their self-efficacy and mental well-being, and positions them to be change makers within their home communities.

TRAVEL TO GHANA IN SUMMER 2025

Code Switch is partnering with Willeds Travel to curate an amazing home going cultural immersion experience to the motherland from July 17 – 27, 2025! This ‘Cultural Heritage, Legacy & Healing Tour’ is designed for self-identifying Black girls, women, gender expansive youth, and members of the African diaspora interested in exploring their ancestral roots. Travelers will also have an opportunity to explore the deep history and culture of Ghana, as well as participate in powerful ‘Sankofa Sister Circles’ curated to help travelers heal from the trauma and harm caused by systemic oppressions shaped by race and gender. Learning more about the cross-cultural connection between racial justice, education for girls, and the restorative justice movement is also included in the Ghana 2025 experience. The tour includes…

The cost of this amazing cultural immersion experience is $3,000 double occupancy and $3,572 for single occupancy. A $300 deposit is required to hold your spot. All deposits are due by December 31, 2024. Fundraising opportunities are available for those who need to have their trip sponsored. July 17

Welcome to Accra, capital city of Ghana! Enjoy a delicious meal, explore the city, check into hotel, and participate in welcome circle.

July 18

Take a drive to Aburi Botanical gardens to learn more about plants and its use, then visit the Bead factory before settling into hotel accommodations.

July 19

One-way flight from Accra to the Northern region. Visit Tamale Art Market, check into Mole Safari Resort, and participate in night life safari.

July 20

Morning safari and scenic canoe ride. Visit traditional Mognori village on banks of river before participating in sunset Safari and dinner.

July 21

Head to Kumasi to visit the historical landmarks of the Ashanti Kingdom. Stop at Kintampo waterfall along the way. Dinner and sister circle to close out evening.

July 22

It’s Kente Day. Visit Kente village to learn more about kente weaving and the lifestyle of the descendants of the Ashanti Kingdom. Participate in traditional naming ceremony.

July 24

Today we journey to Cape Coast, a major center of the transatlantic slave trade. We’ll stop at Asin Manso where enslaved Africans took their last bath before walking through the ‘Door of Return’ at Cape Coast Castle.

July 25

Today is all about relaxation. We’ll enjoy a day on the beach curating fun activities meant to support healing and self-care after the heaviness of our time exploring the history of human trafficking during the transatlantic slave trade.

July 26

Scenic tour back to Accra where we’ll explore Independence (Black Star) Square and visit the popular artisan market in Jamestown. An option to visit the Kwame Nkrumah Museum is also on the day’s menu of activities. Closing Circle.

July 27

One last museum visit before we head home. We’ll explore the home of WEB Dubois a Black American scholar, founder of the NAACP, and critical leader in the Pan African movement that led to Ghana’s independence. Flights home.

July 28
